Saskatchewan Roughriders Dominate Montreal Alouettes in 34-6 Victory

In a highly anticipated matchup of the CFL's leading teams, the Saskatchewan Roughriders emerged victorious against the Montreal Alouettes with a commanding 34-6 score. Quarterback Trevor Harris excelled, throwing for 289 yards and contributing two touchdown passes against a former team, while Dohnte Meyers made a notable impact with 182 all-purpose yards. With this win, the Roughriders improved their standing to 7-1, putting them firmly ahead of the 5-3 Calgary Stampeders.

The Roughrider defense proved formidable, restricting the Alouettes to under 170 total yards and preventing them from scoring a touchdown, while forcing three turnovers throughout the game. The Roughriders showcased their offensive prowess with a total of 412 yards, delighting a crowd of 21,654 fans at Percival Molson Stadium in Montreal. This victory also marked Saskatchewan's first win in Montreal since 2021, breaking a two-game losing streak against the Alouettes and lifting them to 4-0 on the road.

The Roughriders got off to a strong start with a one-yard touchdown run from quarterback Tommy Stevens, following a significant 46-yard kickoff return by Meyers and an unnecessary roughness penalty by the Alouettes on the opening drive. In the first quarter, the Alouettes struggled offensively, accumulating only 28 yards, which was overshadowed by their 30 yards in defensive penalties.

In the second quarter, Saskatchewan extended their lead following a nine-play, 69-yard drive culminating in a touchdown pass from Harris to Tommy Nield. The Alouettes finally scored with a 56-yard field goal from Jose Maltos, but Saskatchewan quickly responded with a field goal of their own following a powerful 58-yard pass completion from Harris to Meyers.

A promising drive by Montreal at the start of the third quarter fizzled out, resulting in another field goal from Maltos, but the Roughriders answered back with another touchdown pass from Harris. The second half faced a delay due to a thunderstorm, which interrupted play for close to 30 minutes, yet the Roughriders displayed resilience throughout.

Both teams faced challenges, with the Alouettes missing their starting quarterback Davis Alexander and key offensive players, while Saskatchewan was without receiver Samuel Emilus. Looking ahead, the Roughriders will play against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, while the Alouettes are set to host the Edmonton Elks.

Good for the Roughriders, but they should prepare for reality when they face some of the stronger teams.

I was skeptical about Harris, but he proved me wrong. What a performance, and what a game!

Trevor Harris may have thrown for 289 yards, but it doesn’t mean much when the opposing team can't even put points on the board.
