In the flood-affected Pinggu district of Beijing, the gymnasium of the Pinggu Sports Center provided refuge for displaced residents. One family, including a mother and her three young children, found shelter there. The local government arranged the relocation, and the shelter provided essential items like mats for the children.
Heavy rainfall in Beijing resulted in a significant loss of life and the relocation of over 80,000 people. The Pinggu Sports Center gymnasium accommodated 444 people from five villages. The relocation process, from mobilization to full resettlement, was completed within three hours. Evacuees received hot meals, bottled water, and instant noodles. A medical corner was also set up to assist those in need.
Pinggu district has relocated a large number of people and established numerous shelters in various locations. Local officials emphasized the importance of proactive measures to minimize harm and ensure the safety of residents. Other districts, including Miyun, Huairou, Fangshan, and Shunyi, also took timely action to relocate residents.
In Huairou, a military training center was converted into a shelter. Officials reported that they prioritized care for the elderly and children, providing food, shelter, and medical teams. By Tuesday morning, Huairou had relocated over 11,000 people.
In Shunyi district, residents were moved to hotel shelters. Village officials provided meals, and medical staff conducted regular check-ups. Local officials reported that resettlement was completed quickly, with medical personnel ensuring the health and safety of the evacuees.
The neighboring Jizhou district in Tianjin was also affected by the floods. The district operates several centralized shelters equipped with essential supplies. Over 10,000 people were relocated. Rescue efforts were underway, and officials focused on restoring daily routines and economic activities while providing support to relocated residents.
