Chen Yuxi secured her fourth world title in the women's 10-meter platform final at the World Aquatics Championships on Thursday. This victory added to China's impressive gold medal count in diving, bringing their total to eight at the Singapore competition.
Chen dominated the competition, leading in both the preliminary and semifinal rounds. In the final, she executed five flawless dives, each scoring over 80 points. Her final score of 430.50 points easily earned her the gold medal. Germany's Pauline Pfeif took silver with 367.10 points, while China's 15-year-old Xie Peiling, in her World Championships debut, claimed bronze with 358.20 points.
Chen reflected on her achievement, stating that each of her world titles holds a unique significance. She reminisced about her first gold at the World Championships in Gwangju in 2019, her resilience in overcoming injuries and setbacks to win in Budapest in 2022, and her personal-best performance in Fukuoka in 2023. She expressed satisfaction with her performance, especially considering the physical challenges and the difficulty of maintaining her form.
Xie, who achieved a podium finish in her first major international competition, acknowledged Chen's support and guidance. She highlighted Chen's encouragement and expressed her desire to learn from Chen's technique and consistency.
Looking ahead, Chen, with the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics behind her and the 2028 Los Angeles Games cycle underway, remains focused on the present. She stated that she doesn't have a long-term plan and is taking each step as it comes, starting anew.

Why does everyone hype this up? Diving isn't even a real sport.

I wonder how many of her wins are only because she's had better training facilities compared to others.

Chen may have great dives, but what about the health implications of intense training from such a young age?
