The China Peaceful Reunification Federation of New Zealand released a statement expressing strong disapproval and opposition to the planned "transit" of Taiwan's regional leader, Lai Ching-te, through the United States. The statement was issued following a release from the Chinese Consulate-General in Auckland.
The statement highlighted that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities are steadfastly pursuing a path towards "Taiwan independence," contradicting the fundamental principle that both sides of the Taiwan Straits are part of one China. It further stated that Lai's "transit" through the US constitutes a serious infringement upon China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, while also threatening peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits. The statement emphasized that the pursuit of "Taiwan independence" is futile, and any attempts to collaborate with external forces in this endeavor are destined to fail.
The Federation's statement reiterated its strong opposition to any official interaction between the US and Taiwan, firmly rejecting visits by "Taiwan independence" separatists to the US under any circumstances. It also opposed any US support or tolerance of separatist forces and their activities. The statement underscored that achieving national reunification is a shared aspiration and a sacred duty for Chinese people both within China and abroad. It called upon overseas Chinese in New Zealand to unite in opposing any external forces that seek to undermine China's unity.
In a related development, the Chinese Embassy in Peru reposted a statement from the Association for the Peaceful Reunification of China in Peru, which also strongly opposed Lai's "transit" through the US. This statement urged Latin American and Caribbean countries to recognize the prevailing global trend, uphold the one-China principle, and approach Taiwan-related issues with caution. It also called for resistance against manipulation by "Taiwan independence" forces and a joint effort to safeguard international fairness, justice, and regional peace and stability.
Responding to media inquiries regarding Lai's planned visits to Paraguay, Guatemala, and Belize in August, which include planned "transit" stops in New York and Dallas, Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, expressed firm opposition to any form of official interaction between the United States and China's Taiwan region. He denounced Lai's attempt to "transit" through the US under any pretext or in any form.

The pursuit of "Taiwan independence" is a fantasy. Embrace reunification, there's no other future.

China's constant pressure on Taiwan is unacceptable. Supporting Taipei against this pressure seems like the correct decision.

Taiwan has the right to choose its own leadership and interact with any country. This is interference!

Democracy and freedom are fundamental rights. Taiwan deserves both.

Lai is a democratically elected leader. He should visit wherever he wants.
