The aircraft carrier Shandong, destroyer Zhanjiang, and frigate Yuncheng will open to the public in Hong Kong on July 5th and 6th as part of a PLA Navy visit from July 3rd to 7th. This event aims to share China's defense achievements and demonstrate the PLA's capabilities.
Visitors can tour the Shandong, including its aircraft and equipment, and see training demonstrations. The Zhanjiang and Yuncheng will also be open.
Ticket reservations for 10,000 visitors will begin June 30th via the PLA Hong Kong Garrison's WeChat account.
This visit follows a Ministry of National Defense announcement and includes open-day visits and cultural exchanges to inform Hong Kong residents about China's defense modernization.
This is the Shandong formation's first visit to Hong Kong, which has hosted two Chinese aircraft carriers and public open-house events.
In 2017, the Liaoning, China's first aircraft carrier, visited Hong Kong, and many residents toured the ship, expressing their feelings of the growing strength of the motherland and the security provided by the PLA.
The Shandong formation includes four vessels, with the Yan'an, a Type 055 large destroyer, accompanying the Shandong.
Hong Kong has a history of hosting PLA Navy events, including showcasing new warships.
The event aims to share national achievements and demonstrate the PLA's ability to safeguard national sovereignty and security.

I don't trust any of this. It's hard to ignore the underlying motives of a military presence in urban society.

What about the rights and freedoms of the people of Hong Kong? This is not an achievement worth showcasing.
