Pakistani officials announced that three terrorists were killed in a counterterrorism operation in Karachi. Among those killed was the mastermind behind the November 2024 attack on Chinese engineers. The operation took place in the Manghopir area of Karachi.
According to reports, the slain terrorist was identified as Zafran. Two of his accomplices were also killed during the operation. The counterterrorism operation was a joint effort by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and intelligence agencies. The terrorists were members of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
The recent operation is seen as a step towards combating terrorism in Pakistan. Pakistan has long faced threats from various terrorist groups. The incident in November 2024 involved an attack on Chinese nationals in Karachi.
Following the November attack, the Pakistani government stated its commitment to the safety and security of Chinese nationals and projects. The Chinese government responded by urging Pakistan to investigate the attack, protect Chinese citizens, and maintain communication on the matter.
China has reiterated its support for Pakistan's efforts to combat terrorism. China hopes the Pakistani military will continue to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel and projects. Pakistan has pledged to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens and is open to strengthening counter-terrorism cooperation with China.
China and Pakistan's counter-terrorism cooperation involves judicial collaboration, intelligence sharing, and joint military exercises. This cooperation helps Pakistan maintain its security and interests, while also ensuring the development of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

It’s encouraging to see a focus on protecting foreign nationals. Pakistan's image is important.

I'm skeptical of the collaboration with China; we shouldn't rely on foreign powers for our security.

Great job by the CTD and intelligence agencies! We need more decisive actions like this.

The TTP has been banned multiple times; how are they still active? Something doesn’t add up.
