The Toronto Blue Jays have made a significant acquisition ahead of the Major League Baseball trade deadline by bringing in right-hander Seranthony Dominguez from the Baltimore Orioles, parting with pitching prospect Juaron Watts-Brown. At 30 years old, Dominguez is recognized for his impressive fastball, which averages an impressive 97.7 miles per hour, making him a valuable addition to a team looking to enhance a struggling bullpen.
Originally from the Dominican Republic, Dominguez was born on November 25, 1994, in Esperanza. As the eldest of six siblings, he contributed to his family's support by working at a car wash and chicken farm during his youth. He began his journey in baseball at the age of 13 after being advised he lacked the physicality for field play. Named after a character from a television show his parents watched, Dominguez channeled his passion for baseball by spending countless hours practicing near a local ball field, using whatever he could find, even crafting a glove from a milk carton when needed.
Dominguez faced challenges in his career due to significant elbow injuries, including undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2020. His recovery was prolonged due to travel restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic, but he made a successful return to the Phillies late in the 2021 season. As a potential rental player, Dominguez joins the Blue Jays on an $8 million contract for this season and is set to become a free agent at the end of the 2025 season. While with the Orioles, he showcased his talents with a 3.24 earned-run average across 43 appearances, recording 54 strikeouts and 24 walks over 41 and two-thirds innings. He was acquired by Baltimore from the Phillies on July 26, 2024, after five plus seasons with the team.

The Blue Jays are just throwing money at a problem instead of properly addressing the bullpen issues.

The front office needs to take a long, hard look at themselves after this decision. Poor judgment!

Trading away young talent for a temporary fix – classic Blue Jays mismanagement.

I hope this doesn’t backfire like other trades we’ve seen in the past. Why rush into this decision?
