Canada secured a bronze medal in the mixed relay at the world swimming championships. The team, comprised of Kylie Masse, Oliver Dawson, Josh Liendo, and Taylor Ruck, finished in a time of 3:40.90, narrowly edging out the Netherlands for the podium position. This medal marked Masse's tenth career medal at the long-course world championship.
The Canadian team's performance saw them climb from eighth after the backstroke leg and seventh after breaststroke. Liendo's impressive butterfly split, his fastest ever, propelled the team to fourth. Ruck then overtook an Australian swimmer in the freestyle leg and held off a strong challenge from a Dutch competitor. Ruck's freestyle relay time of 52.94 seconds was her fastest in three years.
Summer McIntosh advanced to the 200-meter butterfly final with the second-fastest semifinal time. She is aiming for her third gold medal of the meet, having already won the 400 freestyle and 200 IM. McIntosh, the reigning Olympic champion in the 200 fly, focused on conserving energy in the semifinals.
In other events, Ilya Kharun of Montreal placed fourth in the men's 200 butterfly, just missing the podium. Tristan Jankovics of Puslinch, Ont., finished 13th in the men's 200 IM. The relay bronze and Marie-Sophie Harvey’s bronze medal in the women’s 200 IM gave Canada a total of four swimming medals with several days of competition remaining.

I wish they would focus on training harder instead of celebrating mediocre achievements.

Isn't it disappointing that our best teams can only manage bronze in relay events?

Exciting? More like underwhelming. Fourth place should have been where they finished.
