Army Secretary Dan Driscoll has instructed the U.S. Military Academy at West Point to withdraw a leadership offer previously extended to Jen Easterly. Easterly, a former Army intelligence officer, held the position of U.S. director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) during the Biden administration.
This decision follows the release of internal emails from major technology companies. These documents revealed instances of government pressure regarding censorship during the COVID-19 pandemic. The investigation, prompted by a subpoena from House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, focused on allegations of suppressed free speech related to COVID-19 and vaccines.
The internal communications showed varying responses from tech executives, with some resisting and others complying with the government's requests. Easterly's background includes a deployment to Iraq, where she investigated the use of communication technology by terrorists.
In a memo, Driscoll ordered West Point to end the service agreement with Easterly, specifically removing her from the role of Robert F. McDermott Distinguished Chair in the Department of Social Sciences. He also directed the academy to halt the involvement of non-governmental and outside groups in the selection of employees, including instructors and professors, and in shaping academic content.
Furthermore, the chair of the U.S. Military Academy Board of Visitors will oversee an immediate review of the institution's hiring practices. An Army spokesperson confirmed these actions, emphasizing the commitment to preparing future officers for the challenges of the modern battlefield.

This action reflects the need to uphold the highest standards within our military institutions. We need leaders we can trust.

The military should be focused on merit, not politics. Jen Easterly has proven her capabilities time and again.

It’s disgraceful to see a capable leader sidelined for the sake of political optics. Let’s hope this isn’t a trend.

Why is the military reacting to a subpoena instead of focusing on national security? This is a distraction from the real issues.

Is this really about leadership or just trying to silence voices that don't align with a certain agenda? Pathetic.
