Lazizbek Mullojonov, who secured the heavyweight boxing title at the recent Paris Olympics, has been placed under provisional suspension due to a positive test for a prohibited substance. The International Testing Agency (ITA) reported that the 26-year-old athlete from Uzbekistan tested positive for methasterone, an anabolic-androgenic steroid known for its ability to rapidly enhance muscle growth and strength, during an out-of-competition test conducted on June 11.
The ITA's statement also noted that Mullojonov has been made aware of the situation and holds the right to request a B-sample analysis. If he decides to pursue this option and the B-sample corroborates the findings of the A-sample, it will result in a definitive ruling of an anti-doping rules violation. Conversely, if he opts not to request this additional analysis, the case will still proceed as a confirmed violation. The athlete will be allowed to present any explanations concerning the test results.
Meanwhile, the Uzbekistan Boxing Federation has been approached by Reuters for comments regarding the situation. Notably, Mullojonov has also garnered accolades in other competitions, achieving a bronze medal in the heavyweight category at the 2023 IBA World Boxing Championships and winning a gold medal in the super heavyweight division at the 2022 Asian Amateur Boxing Championships.

Remember he's still a very talented boxer. Hope this doesn't ruin all his accomplishments.

He's setting a terrible example for young athletes.

The ITA's ruling needs to be enforced firmly. Zero tolerance.

Let's wait for the B-sample results and his explanation before jumping to conclusions.
