China Commemorates 88th Anniversary of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression

On Monday, a significant ceremony took place in Beijing to observe the 88th anniversary of China's resistance against Japanese aggression. This event coincided with the opening of an exhibition called "For National Liberation and World Peace," which marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in both the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

The ceremony and exhibition were hosted at the Museum of the War of Chinese People's Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, situated near the Lugou Bridge, where the Japanese military first attacked on July 7, 1937. During the event, Cai Qi, a prominent member of the Communist Party of China, addressed attendees and launched the exhibition. He reflected on how, following the Lugou Bridge Incident, the Chinese military and populace united in their fight against Japanese forces, thereby igniting a nationwide effort that played a crucial role in the larger struggle against fascism.

Cai emphasized the bravery of the Communist Party during the resistance, noting that they were pivotal in directing the national efforts and providing steadfast support throughout the conflict. He commended the resolve of the Chinese people, who fought tirelessly not only for their survival and national revitalization but also for the justice of humanity, ultimately leading to a successful outcome in the war.

The exhibition is designed to provide a comprehensive view of the extensive sacrifices made by the Chinese people during their 14-year resistance effort. Cai underscored the importance of honoring the spirit of this resistance by fostering confidence and striving to elevate China toward modernization and national rejuvenation. He also pointed out the necessity of contributing positively to global peace and development.

In attendance were around 600 individuals, including national leaders and representatives from various sectors, who laid flowers at the memorials for the war martyrs and toured the exhibition. With an area of 12,200 square meters, the exhibition comprises eight sections, featuring more than 1,500 photographs and over 3,200 artifacts. The Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression stands out as the first significant conflict in the World Anti-Fascist War, resulting in over 35 million casualties among military personnel and civilians. China's decisive efforts in this battle not only helped defeat Japanese forces but significantly supported allied fronts in both Europe and Asia, contributing greatly to the eventual victory and fostering worldwide peace.
