On Sunday, Hun Manet, the Prime Minister of Cambodia, emphasized the nation's readiness to pursue a swift and unconditional ceasefire in the ongoing tensions between Cambodian and Thai armed forces. In a recent social media update, he mentioned a telephone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump, during which Trump articulated his opposition to the ongoing violence that threatens lives on both sides, including among soldiers and civilians, and advocated for immediate peace.
Responding to President Trump's call for a ceasefire, Hun Manet conveyed Cambodia's agreement to cease hostilities between the two nations. He further announced that Prak Sokhonn, the deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation, has been tasked with engaging U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to discuss the ceasefire proposal in detail. The clashes at the Cambodia-Thailand border commenced on Thursday, with both countries accusing the other of breaching international law.

Is the 'swift' ceasefire going to include independent observers to confirm its application?

Good on Hun Manet for prioritizing peace. Let's hope Thailand reciprocates.

Unconditional? That's a dangerous precedent - what guarantees of security are in place?
