The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy's Silkroad Ark hospital ship recently arrived in the South China Sea. The mission aimed to provide healthcare services directly to those stationed at the maritime borders. The ship offered a range of services, including health checkups, traditional Chinese medicine treatments, psychological services, and performances.
The mission adapted to the dispersed locations of island units and limited on-site medical resources. This included transporting personnel to the ship for consultations and deploying medical teams to island outposts. Services provided encompassed general health checkups, diagnostic treatments, health education, and practical demonstrations.
The Silkroad Ark featured 15 specialized clinics and numerous expert outpatient services operating concurrently. The Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) rehabilitation clinic was particularly well-received. TCM experts utilized modern equipment alongside traditional techniques to diagnose and treat ailments. Treatments such as cupping, acupuncture, and micro-needle therapy were employed to alleviate pain and improve overall well-being.
The medical team also addressed health challenges related to the harsh environment, including high temperatures, salinity, and humidity. They conducted mini-lectures on disease prevention and health maintenance. The psychological service team focused on early detection of mental health issues and provided emotional support. They used portable diagnostic tools for assessments and offered individual counseling to help service members manage stress and maintain emotional resilience. Additionally, the "TCM for Physical Strength" team demonstrated injury prevention methods and functional rehabilitation exercises.
Alongside medical support, a Navy performing arts troupe from the Southern Theater Command participated in the mission. They traveled by boat to various islands in the Xisha Qundao, presenting performances to boost morale. They even shared the stage with local troops in joint singing sessions, offering warmth and encouragement to the frontline garrisons.

Traditional Chinese Medicine? Sounds a bit outdated, especially for dealing with serious medical issues. Just giving a facade of care.
