Yixian county in Hebei province experienced the highest rainfall in the nation over the preceding 24 hours. From 6 am on Thursday to 6 am on Friday, the maximum rainfall in Yixian county reached 447.4 millimeters. Several stations reported rainfall exceeding historical extremes.
The Hebei provincial meteorological authority elevated its emergency response for heavy rain to Level III on Friday morning. An orange alert for rainstorms was also issued. This required relevant departments to initiate and upgrade their emergency responses to heavy rain disasters and to implement emergency plans for effective disaster prevention and response.
The average annual precipitation in Hebei province is 484.5 millimeters. In Yixian county, the average rainfall from 8 am on Thursday to 8 am on Friday was 253.6 millimeters, with a maximum precipitation of 448.7 millimeters recorded in Renyizhuang village. The highest hourly rainfall intensity, also in Renyizhuang village, was 98.1 millimeters. As of 8 am on Friday, 1,584 people had been relocated, with no reported casualties.
Heavy rainfall caused flood disasters in areas of Hebei and Shaanxi provinces. The Ministry of Emergency Management announced this on Friday.
In response to local disaster relief needs, the national commission for disaster prevention, reduction and relief, the Ministry of Emergency Management, and the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration allocated 23,000 items of emergency relief supplies. These included folding beds, blankets, emergency lighting, and family emergency kits. These supplies were sent to support the emergency relocation, resettlement, and disaster relief efforts in the affected provinces.
The Hebei provincial meteorological disaster prevention and environmental meteorology center issued an urban rainstorm flooding risk warning on Friday afternoon.
The National Meteorological Center (NMC) predicts that heavy rain will continue for the next three days in most areas, including parts of Hebei Province. Some regions are expected to experience torrential rain, with isolated areas facing extreme rainfall.
Flooding exceeding warning levels has been reported in fifteen rivers across Shanxi, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Hebei, Shaanxi, and Guangdong.
