Japan continued to endure a severe heatwave on Friday. The Japan Meteorological Agency documented extreme temperatures throughout the nation.
Date City in Fukushima Prefecture registered a scorching 39.9 degrees Celsius at 1:39 p.m., establishing a new record high for the month of July. Fukushima City also faced intense heat, reaching 39.0 degrees Celsius by 1:40 p.m.
Several other locations struggled with the elevated temperatures. Hatoyama in Saitama Prefecture and Kiryu in Gunma Prefecture both reached 38.9 degrees Celsius. Koga City in Ibaraki Prefecture saw temperatures climb to 38.6 degrees Celsius, while Miyazu City in Kyoto Prefecture recorded a high of 38.5 degrees Celsius.
Central Tokyo experienced a temperature of 35.5 degrees Celsius at 12:05 p.m. This marked the second consecutive day that the capital city saw temperatures at or above 35 degrees Celsius.
