Hospital in Tianshui Under External Management After Tampering with Blood Test Results

A hospital located in Tianshui, in Gansu province, has been placed under external management following its admission of manipulating blood test results that indicated dangerous lead levels in patients. The Gansu Provincial Health Commission announced that the Gansu Provincial Hospital would take over the management of the Tianshui Second People's Hospital to enhance the quality of its clinical services. To facilitate this, a team of thirty-six provincial experts has been dispatched for long-term assignments, and Li Xingyong, the former Party secretary of the Gansu Provincial Hospital, will step in as the new hospital director.

In light of public concern regarding the flawed test results, authorities have stated that the hospital has introduced advanced testing equipment to measure blood lead levels. The installation, calibration, and training of staff on this new technology have all been finalized, while three provincial inspection specialists are present to guarantee the precision of the testing processes.

Earlier on the same day, officials disclosed that, between May and June, seven children from Peixin Kindergarten in Tianshui recorded elevated blood lead levels at the hospital. Notably, the hospital altered the reported levels for the two children with the highest measurements. Furthermore, investigations revealed that there had been previous instances of irregular modifications to test data within the laboratory. In the aftermath of the announcement, the local disease control authorities also experienced leadership changes, with Zhang Tingsheng being appointed as the new Party secretary and director of the Gansu Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention, filling the position of those now under formal investigation.
