According to the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), China is likely to face two to three typhoons in August that could affect coastal regions, bringing potential risks such as floods and storm surges. Jia Xiaolong, who is the deputy director of the National Climate Center, shared during a press briefing that above-normal rainfall is anticipated in the northern, eastern, and southern parts of the country, contrasting with ongoing drought conditions in Sichuan Province and Chongqing.
Additionally, Jia indicated that temperatures are expected to remain above average, particularly in the eastern and central areas of China. He urged the public to remain cautious, highlighting the possibility of flooding, landslides, heatwaves, and impacts from typhoons, while emphasizing the need for preparation to meet energy demands during this challenging period.
The CMA has also noted that this year has seen historic heatwaves since the onset of the flood season. The average temperatures recorded between March 15 and July 22 reached 16.8 degrees Celsius, marking the second-highest average on record. During this timeframe, six provinces experienced unprecedented high temperatures, with locations like Xingping City in Shaanxi Province and Badong County in Hubei Province registering all-time temperature records.
Wang Yawei, a spokesperson for the CMA, mentioned that the administration is enhancing their forecasting capabilities to better navigate the increasingly volatile weather, employing advanced technology such as radar, satellite, and artificial intelligence to improve real-time weather predictions and early warning systems for severe local weather events.

This seems like fearmongering disguised as a weather report. I’m not buying it.

Are they just trying to justify their investments in weather technology? Sounds fishy.

More like they’re trying to divert attention from other pressing problems in the country.

Are we seriously worried about normal seasonal weather patterns? Typhoons happen.
