This year, China has recorded exceptionally high temperatures since the onset of the flood season, with heatwaves starting earlier than in previous years and lasting longer. According to the National Climate Center, the average number of hot days during this period has climbed to 8.5, marking the highest figure ever recorded. Additionally, the average temperature for this timeframe is the second-highest on record, as noted by Jia Xiaolong, the deputy head of the center, during a recent press briefing.
On July 2, the National Disease Control and Prevention Administration, along with the China Meteorological Administration, issued a health risk warning for high temperatures. This warning is significant as it is the first of its kind in China's history. In light of these climate challenges, China has prioritized adapting to climate change, and in 2024, the government unveiled a national plan aimed at establishing early warning systems for health risks associated with climate change.

It's good to see a national plan in place to address this.
