New Occupations Drive Growth and Diversify Career Paths

China is actively fostering job creation by introducing new occupations. This initiative aims to provide a wider range of career options and high-quality employment opportunities for its citizens. The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security is leading this effort, with the goal of aligning talent development with emerging fields and addressing any existing skill gaps.

In the first half of the year, China saw the creation of 6.95 million new urban jobs, representing a significant portion of the annual target. The urban unemployment rate remained stable at 5 percent in June. The government has implemented various policies, including the introduction of new occupations, to support job stability. Since August of the previous year, 17 new occupations and 42 new job types have been launched.

The creation of new occupations is generating more high-quality employment opportunities and offering workers more diverse career paths. The growth of emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence and big data, is driving the emergence of numerous new digital professions. Examples include roles like AI-generated animation producers and unmanned aerial vehicle swarm flight planners.

New professions are also emerging to meet evolving consumer needs. These include roles such as indoor environmental specialists, sleep health managers, and customized travel photography planners. The ministry plans to establish standards, enhance training, and align talent development with market demands to address talent gaps in these emerging fields.

The annual release of a new catalog of occupations helps to regulate and manage these emerging roles. The primary goals of releasing new occupations are standardization and training, enabling individuals to obtain qualification certificates. New occupations play a crucial role in guiding employment, making individuals, especially young people, aware of diverse job opportunities.

The Chinese government will conduct subsidized training for a large number of candidates annually over the next few years to enhance employment. Furthermore, the government will add positions in key sectors, including the digital, green, silver, and nighttime economies.

AI-generated animation producer? Sounds like a job that will be automated away in a year.

The catalog is nothing substantial, it's just another government regulation to make things feel stable.

This is a great attempt to address the needs of an aging population, which is a global issue.

Another government initiative. More bureaucracy, less innovation.

The introduction of a new catalog is a good way of structuring jobs.
