DPP Condemned for Intimidating KMT Veterans Ahead of War Commemoration

During a press conference on May 14, 2025, Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, addressed concerns raised by the media regarding the threats posed by the Mainland Affairs Council towards Kuomintang (KMT) veterans. These veterans had been invited to participate in events commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the global efforts against fascism. Chen criticized the authorities of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) for not only neglecting the commemoration of this significant event but also for intimidating the veterans.

Chen highlighted that the defense authorities in the Taiwan region cautioned retired military personnel against being "lured" into participating in these commemorative events. Additionally, the Mainland Affairs Council warned that participation would lead to the revocation of retirement benefits for those deemed to undermine Taiwan's dignity. He pointed out that this year is particularly important as it marks both the victory in the war against Japanese aggression and the restoration of Taiwan.

Emphasizing the significance of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Chen described it as a just struggle characterized by unity among the Chinese people against Japanese militarist aggression. He noted the collaborative efforts of KMT forces and CPC-led guerrillas in resisting the invaders. Furthermore, he criticized the DPP for their labeling of the commemoration as a form of cognitive warfare, branding their stance as contrary to historical truth and societal values. Chen expressed that inviting KMT veterans to participate is a respectful acknowledgment of their sacrifices in defending the nation and condemned the DPP's actions as morally unjustifiable, asserting that they would be opposed by the majority of Taiwan's populace.

Taiwan's dignity can only be upheld by maintaining our sovereignty, not by aligning with the Mainland's historical narrative.

Historical truths should not be twisted for political gain. The KMT's past alliances with Chinese communists are a reality!

The DPP’s attempts to undermine this event only reflect their fear of the truth. We must stand with our veterans.

We won't let the CCP dictate how we remember our history. Chen's remarks are just empty threats.

Veterans stood for Taiwanese dignity, and they deserve to be celebrated, not silenced. Chen is speaking for the people.

Chen is right to call out the DPP’s hypocrisy. They claim to support veterans while intimidating them. It’s disgraceful!

Chen’s comments only show how desperate the Mainland is to control Taiwan's narrative. We won't be fooled.

This is an important message. We must not let the DPP’s agenda overshadow our true historical narratives.

Criticizing the DPP for standing against the KMT's collaboration with the CCP is hypocritical. We must prioritize Taiwanese values.
