China Condemns US Military Support for Taiwan, Vows Action

The Chinese Defense Ministry expressed strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to recent developments concerning US arms sales to Taiwan and the presence of US military personnel on the island. This statement was made in response to reports of increased US military support for Taiwan.

Reports indicate the US is delivering a new shipment of M1A2 tanks to Taiwan and plans to increase arms sales over the next four years, potentially exceeding the volume of sales during the Trump administration. Furthermore, a former US military official revealed that approximately 500 US military personnel are currently stationed in Taiwan, a figure significantly higher than previously acknowledged.

Senior Colonel Jiang Bin, a spokesperson for China's Ministry of National Defense, stated that these actions provide further evidence of the US and "Taiwan independence" separatists working to undermine China's core interests, alter the status quo in the Taiwan Strait, and escalate regional tensions. He emphasized that China strongly opposes these actions.

Jiang highlighted that the Taiwan question is central to China's core interests and represents a critical red line in China-US relations. He urged the US to cease its military collaboration with Taiwan, warning of negative consequences. The spokesperson also cautioned the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities that US weapons cannot provide security and that seeking external support for "Taiwan independence" will ultimately fail. The People's Liberation Army (PLA) will continue to enhance its military training, combat readiness, and capabilities to counter any attempts at "Taiwan independence" and external interference.
