The Chinese Embassy in Japan expressed strong disapproval of recent actions by the Japanese government. The embassy's statement followed the sending of a ritual offering to the Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo by Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. Furthermore, a significant number of Japanese lawmakers and some deputy cabinet ministers visited the shrine.
The embassy characterized these actions as a direct challenge to historical justice. They also highlighted what they perceive as the Japanese government's continued flawed perspective on historical matters. China has formally protested these actions to Japan.
The Yasukuni Shrine is viewed by China as a symbol of Japanese militarism and its past aggression. The shrine honors 14 Class-A war criminals who were convicted of serious crimes during World War II.
China emphasized that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. The embassy stated that a correct understanding of its history and sincere reflection are essential for Japan's reintegration into the international community and for building positive relationships with its Asian neighbors.
China urged Japan to uphold its commitments and to be mindful of its statements and actions concerning historical issues, including the Yasukuni Shrine. They called on Japan to completely disassociate itself from militarism and to pursue peaceful development. The embassy warned that failing to do so would further erode Japan's standing with its Asian neighbors and the international community.

Japan must learn from its past, or it risks repeating its mistakes again.

This is just another attempt by China to distract from its own human rights violations.

The Yasukuni Shrine is indeed a symbol of militarism. Japan needs to take this seriously.

Not every visit to the shrine is about militarism. Let’s not paint everyone with the same brush!

Japan’s government should understand that honoring war criminals is not acceptable behavior.
