Renewable Energy and Rural Revitalization in Dabancheng

In the Dabancheng district of Urumqi, Xinjiang, towering wind turbines and solar panels harness the region's abundant wind and sunlight. This area, situated at the foot of the Tianshan Mountains, experiences strong winds for a significant portion of the year, creating ideal conditions for clean energy development. This shift towards renewable energy aligns with China's carbon goals, providing "green electricity" and bringing economic benefits to local communities.

The development of clean energy has significantly impacted the lives of local villagers. During the construction phase of photovoltaic projects, villagers could earn substantial daily wages. Even after the projects became operational, some villagers found employment as cleaners and guards, securing a steady monthly income.

Dabancheng, home to China's first wind farm, now boasts numerous wind and solar farms, representing a green transition and a unique revitalization effort. While some villages benefit from land rent generated by these projects, others, like Leijiagou village, do not. However, Leijiagou village still benefits from special financial budgets allocated by different levels of government to support rural revitalization.

Leijiagou village is also exploring other avenues for economic growth. They have initiated a polytunnel program for cultivating morel mushrooms, a high-value crop. The village collective can lend the polytunnel to an experienced plantation company, and the revenue generated will be used to benefit the villagers.

Aksu village, located in the same district, has focused on camel husbandry and the production of camel milk products. With the support of local officials and technicians, villagers have embraced concentrated camel husbandry, recognizing its environmental benefits and the profitability of camel milk. This has allowed villagers to increase their income.

One villager, Jenshan Sharap, initially invested in a few camels and leased them to a nearby husbandry base. Seeing the positive results, he expanded his herd, securing a stable income and allowing him more time to pursue his passion for the Kazakh Eagle Dance, a local intangible cultural heritage.

The efforts in Dabancheng and other areas of Xinjiang are aimed at promoting the revitalization of industry, talent, culture, ecology, and organization. These initiatives are contributing to cleaner environments, improved infrastructure, and increased community well-being.

Who's benefiting from the 'green electricity'? Are profits staying locally, or are they flowing elsewhere?

Sounds like a one-sided narrative. Are there any dissenting voices, any villagers with negative experiences?
