Couple Marries in Flooded Church, Defying Typhoon in the Philippines

Jade Rick Verdillo and Jamaica Aguilar were unwavering in their commitment to marry on their chosen day. They were prepared to face any obstacle, even a flooded church.

The Barasoain church in Malolos, Bulacan province, Philippines, experienced significant flooding on Tuesday due to heavy rainfall. Typhoon Wipha had intensified the seasonal monsoon rains, leading to widespread flooding throughout the region.

The couple had considered the possibility of flooding. However, rather than allowing the weather to disrupt their plans, they resolved to proceed with their wedding. They viewed the situation as just another challenge in the journey of marriage.

Verdillo explained that they found the courage to continue. They felt that proceeding with the wedding was a sacrifice in itself, but that postponing it would lead to more sacrifices. Aguilar walked down the aisle in her white dress, the train of her gown floating behind her in water that reached almost to her knees. Verdillo awaited her at the altar, dressed in a Barong Tagalog, a traditional embroidered shirt worn for special events.

The newlyweds have shared a decade-long relationship. The groom expressed his belief that challenges are inevitable, and that this was merely a test. He saw the wedding as one of many struggles they would overcome together.

Despite the difficult weather conditions, some family members and friends were able to attend the wedding. One guest, Jiggo Santos, observed that love had triumphed, as the wedding proceeded despite the storm and floods. He described the event as extraordinary.
