Search and rescue efforts are ongoing in Laiwu district of Jinan, Shandong province, following devastating flash floods. The floods occurred early Tuesday morning after intense rainfall.
A large contingent of emergency personnel is involved in the search. Approximately 550 firefighters and police officers are actively working to find those who are still missing. In addition to the search, they are also focused on evacuating residents to safety. So far, 290 individuals have been moved to safer locations.
Communication networks in the affected area have been largely restored. Essential supplies are being delivered to those impacted by the floods. These supplies include tents, food, drinking water, and medicine.
Initial assessments from local authorities reveal the extent of the damage. The flash floods caused significant damage to 19 houses. Tragically, two lives have been lost, and ten people remain unaccounted for.
The Laiwu district of Jinan experienced an extreme weather event. Between midnight and 5 am on Tuesday, the area received 364 millimeters of rainfall. This heavy rainfall triggered the flash floods, which primarily impacted the areas around Shiwuzi village and Zhujiayu village in Dawangzhuang town.
