According to sources connected to The Daily Signal, the White House intends to unveil another rescissions package that will likely include reductions in education funding. This move forms part of the second Trump administration’s commitment to reforming the education system, highlighted by President Trump's executive order from March, which empowered Secretary Linda McMahon to work towards dismantling the Department of Education. Consequently, the department has seen around 1,300 of its career employees laid off.
Details remain vague regarding which parts of the previously approved education funding will be subject to cuts in the upcoming rescissions package, which is expected to encompass further expenditure reductions beyond education. On Friday, White House Deputy Chief of Staff James Blair informed journalists that the new rescissions package would be introduced "soon." He noted, "We’ve got a number of items we’re looking at," underlining the ongoing discussions with senators regarding their priorities throughout the appropriations process.
The rescissions process, which is rarely utilized, is a legislative mechanism for reducing federal spending. Recently, Congress approved President Trump’s first rescissions package, which amounted to $9.4 billion in cuts affecting public broadcasters like NPR and PBS, as well as funding for the U.S. Agency for International Development. This was a significant event, representing the first occasion in decades where Congress has approved a president’s request to rescind funding that had already been authorized. Additionally, the Trump administration has issued executive orders that ban the instruction of gender ideology and critical race theory in publicly-funded educational institutions.

Linda McMahon dismantling the Department of Education? Seriously?! This is a direct attack on public education and the teachers who make it work.

Good, let's get rid of wasteful spending! Where has that money really been going? It's time for a change.

This is a disaster for our kids! Cutting education funding is short-sighted and will hurt future generations.

The rescissions package is a good way to reduce spending and become more fiscally responsible. The government must do this!

This administration is clearly anti-education and doesn't care about the future. Invest in our children, not tax cuts for the wealthy!
