This year marks the 70th anniversary of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, a milestone reflecting the global expansion of the traditional Chinese medicine research institute's influence.
Over the past several decades, the academy has fostered international collaboration, signing over 170 cooperation agreements with medical institutions across more than 40 countries and regions. It has also established five overseas centers and cultivated long-term partnerships with prominent universities and hospitals worldwide.
The academy's Xiyuan Hospital, a key component of the institute, has been a hub for international exchange since its establishment in 1955. It has hosted experts and scholars from over 100 countries and regions, as well as representatives from international organizations. The hospital has made significant strides in promoting international exchange and cooperation, including providing TCM training to over 3,000 individuals from more than 80 countries.
The hospital's staff has actively participated in academic exchanges and visits to leading institutions in countries such as the United States, Germany, and Austria. An English speech contest was held to cultivate international TCM professionals, showcasing the skills of finalists from various departments. International guests from several nations attended the event as judges.
One speaker, Sun Lingyun, shared her experience teaching doctors at New York's Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Initially met with skepticism, Sun's efforts led to the opening of the center's first herbal pharmacy in 2019, allowing US doctors to prescribe Chinese medicine for cancer patients. The number of TCM medicines available at the pharmacy has since increased, and the institutions have jointly published clinical trial studies on applying TCM to cancer treatment.

Focus on outcomes. What are the quantifiable improvements in patient health? None, I'm guessing.
