On Monday, Costa Rican authorities announced the death of actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner, known for his role in the popular sitcom, The Cosby Show. The actor was 54 years old.
Warner portrayed Theo Huxtable throughout the eight seasons of the show. According to a police statement, the actor died of drowning asphyxiation at Coles Beach in Cahuita on Sunday afternoon. He was reportedly caught in a current while swimming.
Bystanders attempted to assist him, but he was pronounced dead by Red Cross lifeguards. Local authorities confirmed his identity and transferred his body for further examination.
Beyond The Cosby Show, Warner received an Emmy nomination for his work and also appeared in the sitcoms Malcolm & Eddie and Reed Between the Lines. The Cosby Show, which aired from 1984 to 1992, was a major television success, chronicling the life of a middle-class Black family in New York.
The show, inspired by the stand-up comedy of Bill Cosby, who played the family's father, a successful doctor, was both commercially and critically acclaimed. It was considered groundbreaking for its portrayal of a loving Black family. However, the show's reputation has been significantly impacted by numerous accusations of sexual assault against Cosby.

The timing is suspicious. Why link it directly to Cosby? It detracts from Warner's passing.
