On Monday, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt stated that President Donald Trump was surprised by Israeli strikes in Syria the previous week. She also mentioned that the President had discussed the matter with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Israel's actions involved strikes on Damascus, the capital, and Sweida, a city with a large Druze population. The Israeli government stated that these strikes were intended to pressure the Syrian government to withdraw its forces from the area, which was experiencing ongoing clashes.
Leavitt informed reporters during a press briefing that Trump was taken aback by the bombings in Syria, as well as the bombing of a Catholic church in Gaza. She further explained that the President promptly contacted the Prime Minister to address both situations.
Earlier in the month, Netanyahu had visited the White House, marking his third visit since Trump assumed office in January. Leavitt noted the positive working relationship between the President and Prime Minister Netanyahu, highlighting their frequent communication. She added that the situation in Syria had seen a de-escalation.

The de-escalation claim is ridiculous. They're just trying to deflect attention.

It's important for allies to have these discussions, even when there are disagreements.

Trump's 'surprise'? Sounds like another smokescreen. He's always been aligned with Israel.

Contacting Netanyahu immediately shows a commitment to finding solutions.
