In his recent statements following his victory in Berlin, Oliver Rowland, the Nissan driver, expressed his belief that the Formula E series has become less of a gamble, allowing for a more consistent championship. After winning this year's title two races in advance, Rowland highlighted the improvements made to the qualifying format, which had previously favored randomness, making it difficult for drivers to maintain a championship lead.
During the early years of Formula E, the qualifying structure presented significant challenges, disadvantaging the leading drivers in the championship. Rowland explained that the old system often placed top competitors on slower tracks, forcing them to start at the back of the lineup for subsequent races. This made it hard to build momentum and take a sustained lead, complicating championship races; a reflection of the competitive nature of the sport.
Since the introduction of the current qualifying rules, which group drivers based on their championship standings into two segments for eliminatory rounds, Rowland feels a newly found fairness presents opportunities for drivers to secure consecutive titles. He noted that the championship now no longer feels like a lottery, predicting more consistency in the leading ranks of the series and anticipating more drivers will be able to repeat their successes.
While Rowland celebrates his individual accomplishment, Nissan is still in contention for team and manufacturer titles against Porsche. Looking ahead, Rowland’s ambition is to establish himself among the top competitors in Formula E, expressing a desire to chase multiple titles in the future, driven by a strong motivation to excel in the series.

The essence of racing is at stake if we rely so heavily on a structured format. Bring back the unpredictability!

Winning two races in advance doesn't reflect true competition; it just shows the others didn't keep up.
