Manchester United announced on Monday that they have signed forward Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, securing his services until 2030, with an option to extend for another year. The club has reportedly paid 65 million pounds, equivalent to approximately $88 million, to acquire the 25-year-old Cameroonian player, with an additional 6 million pounds possible in add-ons.
Mbeumo had an outstanding 2024-25 league season, bringing in 20 goals that significantly contributed to Brentford's respectable 10th-place finish. His goal-scoring prowess placed him among the top players in the league, with only three players—Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak, and Erling Haaland—netting more goals than he did.
Expressing his excitement about joining Manchester United, Mbeumo stated that this opportunity fulfilled a dream of his since childhood. He conveyed a strong desire to improve himself continually, believing that the competitive environment and coaching under manager Ruben Amorim, along with collaboration with world-class teammates, would elevate his game.
Mbeumo, who has proven to be a versatile player, excelled both as a right winger and as a center-forward, making him an essential asset for Brentford last season where he played every league match. Since joining Brentford from the French club Troyes in 2019, he has made a remarkable 242 appearances, scoring 70 goals and providing 51 assists throughout his time there.
Jason Wilcox, Manchester United's director of football, praised Mbeumo's impressive record in the Premier League over the past three seasons, highlighting his consistency and productivity. The club is pleased to have secured one of their key targets ahead of the pre-season tour, which includes three matches in the United States against West Ham United, Bournemouth, and Everton scheduled for late July and early August.

The club needs to stop hiding behind player signings and focus on building a cohesive team instead.

Let’s face it, this is just another move to sell shirts instead of securing wins on the pitch.
