In Singapore, two individuals face charges connected to the escape of a Chinese national linked to multiple jewelry thefts. Long Zhihua, 39, entered a guilty plea related to stealing S$570,000 (approximately US$445,000) worth of jewelry from a location in Windsor Park Road. Despite his guilty plea, Long managed to abscond and is currently evading authorities.
Wilson Ang, a 41-year-old Singaporean, has been charged with three counts, including acting as a negligent bailor for Long, which allowed Long to be released from custody. He is also accused of filing a false police report after Long failed to appear for court proceedings. Another individual, 25-year-old Malaysian Wai Kei Fung, faces two charges for providing the S$30,000 (around US$23,400) bail for Long and agreeing to protect Ang against possible financial losses related to his role as Long's bailor.
Allegations state that Ang entered into a deal with an unidentified person referred to only as "BBQ" in March. This agreement included assurances that Ang would not face any liabilities as Long's bailor. On April 1, using funds from Wai, Ang facilitated Long's release from detention, allowing him to skip court appearances. Upon Long's release, Wai picked him up from prison and took him to a hotel, where he covered the costs of Long's accommodation. After Long’s disappearance, authorities issued a warrant for his arrest and are collaborating with international law enforcement to locate him. Ang subsequently filed a police report claiming he had maintained regular contact with Long, a statement authorities have deemed false, as he had not been in touch with Long at all.

The charges against Ang and Wai, if proven, send a strong message.

Singapore is known for its strict laws and hopefully they get the outcome they desire.

It’s a good thing that the system is taking this seriously.

The audacity of filing a false police report after facilitating his escape is mind-boggling.

These people clearly have no respect for the law or for the victims of the jewelry theft.
