On Sunday, July 20th, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) responded to a welfare concern on the M60 motorway. The incident occurred near Junction 20 shortly after 5 pm, leading to the closure of the motorway in both directions between Junction 19 for Middleton and Junction 22 for Chadderton. This closure resulted in significant traffic congestion. The motorway was reopened around 4 am the following morning.
Initially, reports indicated a man had died. However, the police later confirmed the victim was a 15-year-old boy. GMP stated that his next of kin had been informed.
The closure caused significant disruption, particularly for those traveling to an Oasis concert at Heaton Park. Many concertgoers abandoned their vehicles and walked along the motorway in an attempt to reach the venue. Police warned drivers of severe delays and advised against travel in the area if possible. They also stated that they would deploy a large number of resources to minimize disruption for concertgoers and the public.

I hope the family finds peace. Thanks to the police for thorough work despite the challenges.

It’s terrible that concert-goers had to abandon their cars. The situation should have been handled more efficiently.
