Court records and reporting by The Mail on Sunday indicate that over 90 criminal charges have been filed against 41 asylum seekers residing in the Thistle City Barbican hotel. These charges include offenses such as sexual assault, arson, theft, burglary, and drug-related crimes.
The hotel recently became the focus of a Daily Express investigation. This investigation uncovered instances of residents working illegally as delivery drivers. During the investigation, a Daily Express team was threatened by a resident, and others were observed engaging in public drinking and drug use outside the 400-bed hotel.
Local residents have voiced concerns about the anti-social behavior they attribute to the hotel's occupants. Business owners in the area have also reported a decline in customers, which they believe is linked to the hotel's presence.
One local, Ufuoma Odoh, reported damage to his car caused by an object thrown from a fourth-floor window. Bledar Qirjo, a local restaurant owner, stated that his business has suffered due to the hotel and the behavior of its residents, with customers avoiding the area after 9 pm due to safety concerns. The situation raises questions about the hotel's operation and the allocation of public funds.
Footage from the Daily Express showed security guards present while asylum seekers used delivery company bikes for illegal employment. The investigation also revealed the presence of barriers erected outside the hotel to store these bikes. Last year, a hotel resident was sentenced to prison for arson after attempting to set fire to the hotel. A Member of Parliament commented on the investigation, expressing concern about the impact of such behavior on British citizens and taxpayers.
