Wellbrock and Johnson Claim Double Gold at World Aquatics Championships

German swimmer Florian Wellbrock secured a remarkable achievement at the Singapore World Aquatic Championships on Friday. He completed a "golden double" by winning the men's 5km open water swimming event, adding to his previous gold medal in the 10km race.

Wellbrock, who is also the 2020 Tokyo Olympic champion in the 10km category, finished with a time of 57 minutes and 26.40 seconds. This victory marked his eighth international gold medal in open water swimming.

The competition was close, with Wellbrock finishing only 2.90 seconds ahead of Italy's Gregorio Paltrinieri, a six-time world champion in both pool and open water swimming. Paltrinieri had previously won the silver medal in the 10km race. Frenchman Marc-Antoine Olivier took the bronze medal.

In the women's 5km race, Australia's Moesha Johnson also achieved a double gold. She won the 5km title, just 36 hours after her victory in the 10km event. Johnson, ranked second in the world, finished with a time of 1 hour, 2 minutes, and 1.30 seconds.

Italy's Ginevra Taddeucci, who also placed second in the 10km race, took silver in the 5km. Japan's Ichika Kajimoto secured the bronze medal. Chinese swimmers Zhang Jinhou and Lan Tiancheng finished in 24th and 26th place, respectively, in the men's race. In the women's race, China's Tian Muran finished 15th, and Cheng Hanyu placed 32nd.
