The cut line at the Portrush tournament on Friday proved to be a challenge for several past British Open champions. Collin Morikawa, Darren Clarke, Zach Johnson, Stewart Cink, Louis Oosthuizen, Padraig Harrington, and Cameron Smith all fell short of the one-over-par cut.
Cameron Smith, who secured victory at St Andrews in 2022, finished with a score of eight over par. Padraig Harrington, a two-time champion who had the distinction of hitting the opening tee shot, ended one stroke behind Smith.
Other notable players who did not make the cut included major champions Adam Scott, Jason Day, Brooks Koepka, and Patrick Reed.
Phil Mickelson, a six-time major winner, managed to qualify for the weekend, finishing at level-par. Henrik Stenson of Sweden also made the cut. Stenson famously defeated Mickelson in a memorable final round to win the 2016 Claret Jug at Troon.

This article is a good reminder that even past champs can have off days. Good job!

It's always the same old story. Major winners declining.

Great to see Mickelson and Stenson make the cut, even if others fell short.

Puts the difficulty of such competition into proper perspective.

Honestly, this is just a list of who failed. Not exactly inspiring coverage.
