In their opening contest, the defending champions, China, showcased their strength by overpowering Indonesia with a score of 110-59. Notably, seven members of the Chinese team reached double-digit points, indicating a strong start to their title defense.
From the beginning of the match, China established their dominance, with center Han Xu scoring an impressive 7 points in under four minutes, helping to secure an early lead of 13-2. Bench player Zhang Ziyu contributed significantly to maintaining the positive momentum, while Zhai Ruoyun added two three-pointers towards the end of the first quarter, allowing China to finish that period with an impressive lead of 28-8. By halftime, the score was further extended to 49-20.
Indonesia's Pierre-Louis stood out with a personal high of 16 points, providing a spirited effort for her team; however, they were ultimately outmatched by China, who achieved a significant 51-point victory. After the game, head coach Gong Luming expressed that the match offered a valuable opportunity to assess the team's performance with various lineup combinations. Additionally, Han Xu remarked on their training camp efforts, expressing confidence in the team's abilities as they continue in the Asia Cup.
According to the structure of the tournament, the leading team from each group will secure direct advancement to the semifinals, while those in second and third place will compete in qualification games for the final semifinal spots. China’s next challenge will be against their rivals, South Korea, scheduled for Tuesday.
