On July 16, 2025, in Tianjin, northern China, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held discussions with Tajikistan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Muhriddin. During the meeting, Wang highlighted the importance of China and Tajikistan working together to implement their inter-governmental economic and trade cooperation plan, aiming to enhance connectivity and strengthen collaborations in diverse areas such as investment, energy, counter-terrorism, and security.
Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, noted that both nations' leaders have established a clear direction for developing their comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership in this new era. He expressed China's openness to collaborating with Tajikistan in executing the agreements made by their respective heads of state and in preparing for a significant Tianjin summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
Moreover, Wang reaffirmed China's support for Tajikistan's sovereign development path and opposed any foreign interference in the country's internal matters. In response, Minister Muhriddin expressed Tajikistan's commitment to fully support and collaborate with China to ensure the successful outcome of the upcoming SCO summit. He indicated Tajikistan's eagerness to engage with China in strengthening bilateral cooperation mechanisms and expanding exchanges across multiple sectors, including economy, trade, and education, to elevate the strategic partnership between the two nations.
