Unprecedented Heatwave Shatters Records and Grips the Nation

China is currently experiencing an unprecedented July heat wave, with temperatures soaring above 35 degrees Celsius in many regions, breaking previous records for the month. This intense heat is affecting a vast area, stretching from Chongqing in the southwest to Shanghai in the east, encompassing a significant portion of the country's population.

Numerous provincial capitals and municipalities have recorded temperatures exceeding 35 degrees Celsius. Meteorological stations across several provinces have also broken their July temperature records. Central and northwestern provinces are enduring scorching temperatures for extended periods each day, resulting in uncomfortable mornings and oppressive nights.

The quest for a comfortable night's rest has become a national concern. The demand for cooling appliances, such as air conditioners, is surging, particularly in landlocked central provinces. Even traditionally cooler areas in northeastern China are experiencing a significant increase in air conditioner sales.

The need for air conditioning was once rare in northeastern provinces. However, recent high nighttime temperatures have led to a surge in demand. The frequency of extreme heat conditions this summer is expected to increase. Weather experts predict that a subtropical high-pressure system will strengthen and expand, leading to exceptionally rare extreme heat in some provinces.
