Heavy rainfall caused flooding in a village area in Yesan, South Korea, on July 17, 2025.
The downpours, which lasted for two days, have resulted in at least four fatalities and prompted the evacuation of over 1,300 individuals, according to official reports released on Thursday.
One fatality occurred in Osan, south of Seoul, when a car was buried by debris following the collapse of an overpass retaining wall due to the heavy rain on Wednesday. Three additional deaths were discovered on Thursday in separate incidents involving a submerged car, a stream, and a flooded basement in southern regions. Authorities are currently investigating whether these deaths were directly caused by the heavy rainfall.
The Ministry of Interior and Safety reported that 1,382 people have been evacuated from their homes due to the severe weather conditions. Additionally, 46 flights have been canceled.
The southern part of South Chungcheong province has experienced significant rainfall, with some areas receiving up to 420 millimeters (16.5 inches) since Wednesday.

This happens every year somewhere. Why is it news this time specifically?

I'll believe it when I see it. These official reports are always biased.
