The Toronto Maple Leafs have added forward Dakota Joshua to their roster, as announced on Thursday. Joshua previously played for the Vancouver Canucks.
During the 2024-25 season, Joshua contributed 14 points, with seven goals and seven assists, across 57 games for Vancouver. He began his season on November 14th, following his recovery from treatment for testicular cancer.
Prior to his diagnosis, Joshua had a successful season in 2023-24, achieving career highs with 18 goals and 32 points in 63 games. He also contributed four goals and four assists in 13 playoff games. The Canucks subsequently extended his contract with a four-year, $13-million deal in June 2024. He underwent surgery in early September before returning to play.
Vancouver's general manager, Patrik Allvin, acknowledged Joshua's resilience, stating the team was impressed with how he handled his off-ice challenges. Allvin wished him well in Toronto.
Throughout his NHL career, the Dearborn, Michigan native has accumulated 78 points, including 40 goals and 38 assists, in 241 regular-season games, split between Vancouver and St. Louis. He was originally drafted by Toronto in the fifth round of the 2014 NHL draft.
In July 2019, Toronto traded Joshua to St. Louis. He made his NHL debut with the Blues in the 2020-21 season. He later signed with the Canucks as a free agent in July 2022.

14 points in 57 games? Not exactly lighting the lamp. What are the Leafs even doing?

I'm hoping he's the one to bring a spark, but my expectations are low. Gotta be realistic about this guy's impact.

Respect for handling the challenges he's faced. Hope he brings that fighting spirit on the ice.

This is the definition of a 'filler' move. Where's the impact?

Leafs are still a soft team. Needs grit. Dakota Joshua is not gritty enough.
