The 2025 World Aquatics Championships has announced a one-day postponement of the women's 10km open water swimming event because the water quality exceeded the permissible limits. This decision was made following a comprehensive review conducted by representatives from World Aquatics, the Singapore 2025 Organizing Committee, the World Aquatics Sports Medicine Committee, and the Open Water Swimming Technical Committee.
Although previous assessments had shown that the water quality met the required standards, samples collected on July 13 indicated a concerning rise in pollution levels. In the interest of ensuring the health and safety of the athletes, the race originally scheduled for July 15 will now take place on July 16. Additional water sampling and quality evaluations are ongoing, with both World Aquatics and the local organizing committee monitoring conditions to determine if the event can be safely held later. The competition is set to occur off the picturesque Sentosa Island in southern Singapore, where China has nominated six swimmers to participate in the open water events.
