The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), in collaboration with NIUA and the Delhi government, launched the Urban River Management Plan (URMP) for Delhi at a workshop. This initiative aims to clean and rejuvenate the Yamuna River through an integrated planning approach.
The workshop brought together various stakeholders to foster a shared understanding of the URMP. Key speakers emphasized the need for a collaborative, action-oriented plan grounded in scientific understanding and stakeholder participation. The URMP aims to integrate river-sensitive thinking into Delhi's urban planning.
The Delhi government stressed the importance of the Yamuna for the city's well-being and called for urgent action. International collaboration, particularly with the Netherlands, was highlighted, including the upcoming Centre of Excellence on Urban Water Resilience.
The URMP will address pollution, improve wetland management, and promote water reuse. It will be monitored through a new Urban River Management Index. The project will result in actionable projects. Public participation and cross-sectoral cooperation are crucial for the URMP's success. Delhi is committed to restoring the Yamuna as the heart of a resilient city.

I bet this plan is going to be ridiculously expensive, and a lot of money will be lost in corruption.

This plan is good! It shows that the government is concerned about the situation and is willing to take action.

Collaboration? Sure. Plenty of 'collaborations' that end up with nothing actually happening. Where's the real action?

Pollution, wetland management, water reuse… sounds like they're trying to do too much at once. Complexity often leads to failure.

A resilient city with a healthy river is a promising vision. I hope it's something we can achieve.
