In Pittsburgh, President Donald Trump is scheduled to participate in a summit with executives from prominent technology and energy companies on Tuesday, July 15th. The White House is actively pursuing initiatives to advance artificial intelligence (AI) and expand data center infrastructure.
The Energy and Innovation Summit, hosted at Carnegie Mellon University, will bring together high-ranking officials from companies such as Meta, Microsoft, Alphabet, and ExxonMobil. The event takes place against the backdrop of increasing global competition with China for dominance in the field of AI.
During the event, President Trump is anticipated to announce approximately $90 billion in investments in AI and energy projects within Pennsylvania. The summit was organized by US Senator Dave McCormick, a prominent Republican figure. The president will also reveal commitments from major corporations including Google, CoreWeave, and Blackstone.
Senator McCormick emphasized the critical importance of the summit, stating that the stakes are incredibly high. He warned that a failure by the US to lead in AI could result in a loss of control over infrastructure and technology to Beijing.
Driven by rising demand, major technology companies are striving to secure sufficient power to operate their energy-intensive data centers. Google revealed a $3 billion agreement to obtain up to 3 gigawatts of hydropower from Brookfield Asset Management. These 20-year power purchase agreements will support electricity generation at two facilities in Pennsylvania.
Additionally, cloud service provider CoreWeave announced plans for a $6 billion AI data center, while asset manager Blackstone committed $25 billion to the construction of data centers and energy infrastructure throughout the state.
Other notable executives attending the summit include Mubadala CEO Khaldoon Al-Mubarak, BlackRock CEO Larry Fink, ExxonMobil CEO Darren Woods, Bechtel CEO Brendan Bechtel, and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei.

Trump's rhetoric is always divisive. How exactly will a summit led by him bridge the gap with China's progress?

Don't be fooled. This is just a cynical attempt to court votes in a swing state.

All these deals and promises, but will it actually benefit the average Pennsylvanian, or just the mega-rich?

Another photo op for Trump, pretending to care about AI while dismantling climate regulations. Smh.
