Atletico Madrid has finalized an agreement to acquire Argentinian midfielder Thiago Almada from the Brazilian club Botafogo. The LaLiga team announced the deal on Tuesday.
The club's statement indicated that the agreement is contingent upon Almada successfully completing a medical examination and signing the contract.
Reports from local media suggest that Almada is expected to commit to a contract lasting until 2030. Atletico Madrid is believed to have paid approximately 21 million euros for the 24-year-old player, who is also capable of playing as a winger.
Almada, a World Cup champion with Argentina, began his senior career with Velez Sarsfield in 2018 before moving to Atlanta United in Major League Soccer.
Prior to the Atletico Madrid deal, Almada achieved success with Botafogo, winning both the Brazilian Serie A title and the Copa Libertadores in 2024. He then spent time on loan at Olympique Lyonnais in Ligue 1, starting in January of this year.

We are already stacked with players, and it seems to me he is not that kind of player we want to play for us

He's a very talented player and fits the style Simeone looks for in his players

Another midfielder? Atletico's midfield is crowded already. Poor decision.

Almada… I haven’t been impressed by his form in Ligue 1 this past season. Risky purchase.
