Gansu Province in Northwest China has formed a provincial-level investigation team to address the unusual blood lead case at a kindergarten in Tianshui city. The State Council's food safety office has also sent a working group to oversee and assist with the investigation. The provincial government has stated that the findings and actions taken will be made public promptly.
Following investigations, eight individuals linked to the elevated blood lead levels in children at the Tianshui kindergarten have been taken into criminal custody. The Xinhua News Agency reported that the kindergarten was found to have illegally incorporated inedible painted pigments into the children's food.
Blood lead level assessments revealed that 233 children exhibited abnormal blood lead levels, while 18 children had levels within the normal range.
