The Taiwan question was a prominent topic at the 22nd Shangri-La Dialogue. Zhang Chi, representing the National Defense University delegation from China, addressed the issue, as reported by China Central Television (CCTV) News. He emphasized the fundamental incompatibility between "Taiwan independence" and peace within the Taiwan Straits.
Zhang criticized the Lai Ching-te authorities in Taiwan, accusing them of escalating cross-Straits tensions for over a year. He labeled them as "troublemakers" and "risk creators." Despite these concerns, Zhang reiterated China's commitment to peaceful reunification, stating their willingness to exert maximum effort and demonstrate utmost sincerity. However, he also underscored their unwavering stance against Taiwan's separation from the mainland.
According to the CCTV report, Zhang stated that the Chinese People's Liberation Army continues its combat preparations. He affirmed that efforts to counter "independence" and promote reunification would persist. Furthermore, he declared China's resolve to thwart external interference and firmly defend the unity and territorial integrity of the motherland.
