John Iwuh, a former NHS nurse, has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for raping a woman he lured to his home using a dating app. The attack, which he secretly recorded, led to his conviction on rape and voyeurism charges. He has been placed on the sex offenders register for life and issued with a lifelong restraining order to prevent contact with the victim. A Sexual Harm Prevention Order is also in place.
Police are now investigating Iwuh for potential further sexual offenses. They are urging anyone who may have been a victim to come forward, as they discovered thousands of women's names stored on his mobile phone. The investigation revealed that Iwuh used his profession as a nurse to gain the trust of his victim on the dating app before arranging a meeting.
Detective Inspector Sharad Verma praised the victim's bravery in reporting the attack. He highlighted the dedication of the officers involved in bringing Iwuh to justice, including the discovery of the video recording. The police found nearly 11,000 contacts on Iwuh's phone, with a significant portion of them saved with a woman's name and a dating app.
The victim, who cannot be named, described the devastating impact of the attack on her life, including physical injuries, emotional trauma, and difficulties with work, relationships, and health. She expressed a sense of justice now that Iwuh is in prison and encouraged other victims to come forward and seek help.
The court heard that Iwuh met the victim through the dating app 'Hinge' and quickly moved their conversation to WhatsApp. They arranged a date and met at a train station. Iwuh, claiming he was short on time due to his nursing job, lured the victim to his home. Once inside, he repeatedly tried to kiss her, and when she attempted to leave, he forced her into his bedroom and raped her. The victim reported the incident to the police the same evening and received support throughout the investigation.

I bet there are many more victims. It's sad that people can’t feel safe even in the hands of a professional.

The justice system is often too lenient. 16 years seems insufficient for such a serious crime.

How did he even get the trust of so many women? This is alarming and distressing.

I hope this leads to stricter regulations on who can work in sensitive jobs like nursing.
