Negotiations in Doha, aimed at establishing a ceasefire in Gaza, are facing difficulties. These talks, involving indirect discussions regarding a U.S. proposal for a 60-day ceasefire, are reportedly stalled due to disagreements over the extent of Israeli forces' withdrawal from the Palestinian territory. Despite these setbacks, the discussions are expected to continue.
A key point of contention is the proposed withdrawal maps presented by Israel. A Palestinian source indicated that Hamas has rejected these maps, as they would leave a significant portion of Gaza under Israeli control, including the Rafah area and territories in the north and east. Conversely, Israeli sources stated that Hamas is seeking a withdrawal to the lines held before the renewed offensive in March.
Additional challenges are arising from discussions regarding aid delivery and guarantees for ending the war. The Palestinian source suggested that increased U.S. involvement might be necessary to resolve these issues. The White House has announced that a U.S. envoy, instrumental in developing the latest ceasefire proposal, will be joining the discussions in Doha.
Delegations from Israel and Hamas have been in Qatar since Sunday, working towards an agreement. This agreement aims to facilitate a phased release of hostages, Israeli troop withdrawals, and discussions on a complete cessation of the war. Hamas has consistently demanded an end to the war before releasing the remaining hostages, while Israel insists on the release of all hostages and the dismantling of Hamas before ending the fighting.
The conflict began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas-led militants attacked Israel, resulting in approximately 1,200 deaths and the taking of 251 hostages. Israel's subsequent military actions in Gaza have resulted in over 57,000 Palestinian deaths, according to Gaza health authorities. The war has also displaced nearly the entire population of over two million people, triggering a humanitarian crisis and causing widespread destruction.

I don't trust them to negotiate in good faith. This is all a delay tactic to weaken resolve.

57,000+ deaths and a humanitarian crisis... and they're still negotiating the withdrawal maps? Shameful.

What about accountability for the war crimes? No justice, no sustainable peace.

This is all about control. The goal isn't peace, it's subjugation of the Palestinian population.

Another day, another 'stalled' negotiation. Seems like a stalling tactic while the bombs keep falling.
