On Tuesday, the approach of Typhoon Danas led to the implementation of significant emergency measures along the eastern coast of China. The typhoon made landfall in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, at approximately 9:25 pm, according to information from the National Meteorological Center. Coastal areas could experience wind gusts reaching up to 117 kilometers per hour, although Danas is anticipated to weaken as it moves further inland.
Prior to its arrival on the mainland, the typhoon produced heavy rainfall across southern and northwestern Taiwan, as well as in the coastal areas of Zhejiang province. In Taizhou, some locations reported severe rainfall, with accumulations reaching 260 millimeters over a single day. Wind gusts in coastal regions of Taiwan, as well as Zhejiang and Fujian provinces, approached 100 kilometers per hour.
Having weakened after passing through Taiwan, Danas was downgraded to a tropical storm. In Taizhou, local authorities alerted residents to the risk of flooding and geological hazards, which include landslides and mountain torrents. To protect passenger safety, railway officials suspended several high-speed rail services in affected areas, including key routes in Zhejiang and Fujian provinces.
As of 3 pm Tuesday, the Zhejiang Maritime Safety Administration took significant precautions, deploying 139 patrol vessels and over 1,600 personnel to ensure safety. Authorities conducted inspections on over 360 ships, issuing over 107,000 storm warnings in the process. Additionally, all 126 passenger ferry routes in Zhejiang were suspended, with water-related construction and port operations also halted.
In the Taizhou region, there were 704 vessels being closely monitored, and safety checks were conducted on 193 high-risk ships. Authorities have evacuated 4,657 residents from islands particularly susceptible to the storm's impact, and preparation measures included having three rescue ships and 14 tugs on standby. Meanwhile, in Wenzhou, 2,365 fishing boats were sheltered in ports, and water bus lines in Hangzhou faced suspensions due to rising water levels.

Aren’t there better ways to spend our money than preparing for a storm that will probably weaken?
